Primary School — Bilingual Learning in the Flow of Life
At Alanya American International School, we don’t simply say, “Now we will teach you English.”
Instead, English becomes a natural part of daily life, used in real contexts, guided by both a classroom teacher and a native or fluent English teacher. Through this immersive dual-teacher model, students grow academically while developing fluency in both Turkish and English.
We believe that children learn best when they are curious, engaged, and free to explore. In our classrooms, discovery and joy are at the heart of learning — every day is filled with exploration, play, creativity, and reflection.
Students learn to think critically, ask questions, and make sense of the world around them. Subjects like science and mathematics are taught through interactive and hands-on activities, including the internationally recognized GEMS program (Great Explorations in Math and Science).
Through a balance of individual projects, group work, and laboratory-based discovery, our students are prepared not only academically but also socially and emotionally. They gain the confidence to present ideas, take initiative, and build leadership skills from a young age.
Cultural Literacy & Social Growth
Our educational model promotes:
-
Technological and scientific literacy
-
Cultural awareness and social responsibility
-
Problem-solving and communication skills
-
Lifelong learning mindset
Students grow into confident, creative, and globally aware individuals, capable of navigating future academic and social environments with ease.
Bilingual by the End of Primary School
Thanks to our immersive bilingual system, students in our primary school speak English at a near-native level by the end of fourth grade. They gain the ability to think, express themselves, and collaborate in both languages with ease.
European Language Portfolio
In line with the Council of Europe’s educational vision, we implement the European Language Portfolio (ELP), which helps students record and reflect on their language learning journey and cultural experiences.
The ELP is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and promotes self-assessment, autonomy, and cross-cultural understanding.
The ELP includes:
-
Language Passport: Personal language proficiency levels and CEFR-based indicators
-
Language Biography: Learning strategies, intercultural experiences, and “can-do” self-assessments
-
Dossier: A collection of documents such as certificates, awards, and samples of students’ work
Alanya American International School is one of the few institutions in Türkiye authorized to issue the European Language Passport, giving our students a valuable tool for their international academic and professional futures.
