Instead of telling them "Now we are going to teach you English", English Language is presented to our children in the form of a sharing process under roof of natural life-flow. English is not taught to children as if it is a Course; on the contrary, it is taught to children as if it is an ingredient of natural flow of life. Classroom Teacher and English Teacher, who are both present in the same class during each course, are used as communicational tools in the natural process of learning a foreign language. In ACC®, our goal is to educate students, who wonder, investigate, and ask the question: “why?”. Our students go for discoveries during Class hours and investigate everything they are interested in. They want to discover new things every day. While learning new things, they also have fun, try, discover, investigate and think (at the same time). We already know that there are different ways of learning for each student. Because of this reason, we use different teaching techniques.

GIFTED CHILDREN

As in every country in the World, 3% of the population of our country consists of gifted children. Such gifted students must improve their skills at early ages. They should be involved in programs that shall help them improve their capacities. These students must be discovered at this age. Otherwise, they are going to experience great failures during high school years.

For this reason, a brain that considers itself different from others (intelligent) becomes lazy, assuming that it shall succeed over time without even working or revising. After all, being gifted is a serious problem for both parents and our children. They need to be educated specially. In ACC®, such processes are monitored by scientific methods.

Language Skills Development Program

Our "Language Skills Development Program", which we started to implement in year 2008 in order to develop reading skill that is one of the fundamental skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) of Turkish Course, starts in the 1st Grade and ends on the 6th Grade.  Our program is structured according to the needs of individuals during each stage.

Technical Reading Application

"Technical Reading Application" starts in the 1st Grade and ends on the 4th Grade. Our Technical Reading Application is a sound-based study. Our purpose with this application is: to create awareness of the student in terms of related units such as words, syllables and sound units in spoken language, to ensure students' recognition and discrimination of sounds consisting each word, to create the ability to conduct intellectual processes in the mind in relation with units of spoken language in each student.

Two Teachers' Presence At The Same Time In Each Classroom

At ACC® Schools there are 2 separate teachers in each classroom, one of which speaks only Turkish while the other one speaks only English. By this way, it is ensured that none of our students are neglected. This program is implemented under supervision of Akdeniz University Academicians and is based on the theory that children with parents (a Mother, who speaks German, and a Father, who speaks Turkish) from different language backgrounds start to communicate easily both in German (with their mothers) and in Turkish (with their Fathers) when they are 3 to 4 years old.

Since teachers, who spend 8-9 hours every day with their students, undertake the role of their students' parents during this educational program, especially English Teachers -just by speaking in English (and by understanding the needs of their students)- make students adopt English Language as a natural process. In this way, our children accept the facts that speaking in English is not an extraordinary thing, is just a method of communication in natural flow of life and they have to use this method in order to communicate with their teachers.

In other words, different than other educational methods, which did not succeed over time and which were implemented by us by saying "Come on children, we are going to teach you English and this is an English Class!", English Language is actually a natural sharing process in all classes in ACC® Educational Institutions; consequently, all our educational institutions achieve unbelievable success stories in the field of English Teaching.

Our country participated in Socrates Project, which envisages common educational practices in Europe, in accord with Decision No 253/2000/EC of Europe Council dated 24th January 2000. For this reason, Foreign Language Teaching Practices that are being implemented in European Countries were also adopted in our country.

Foreign Language Teaching in European countries is carried out in accordance with educational policies established by European Council Modern Languages Department. European Council Modern Languages Department, who aims to develop a Common Foreign Language Teaching Programme and who also aims to develop common standards, common measures and relevant tools in the field of Foreign Language Teaching in Europe, established The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

 Nowadays, Foreign Language Teaching in all European Countries is carried out in accord with this framework program. ACC® Schools educate its students with a Language Education Model adopted by the Government of the Republic of Turkey and implemented throughout entire Europe.  This program is called European Language Portfolio (European Language Portfolio or European Language Passport).

WHY (AKK) AMERİKAN KÜLTÜR KOLEJİ ORTAOKULU? [WHY (ACC) AMERICAN CULTURE COLLEGE SECONDARY SCHOOL?]

UKHOMESCHOOL PROGRAM

In 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Grades, students are taught two hours of Maths and two hours of Science in English each week. An online exam that is conducted at the end of each Semester measures and evaluates the results of these Courses. In addition, UKHomeschool Program supports the course curriculum with publications.

Each student is assigned a counsellor. This program also allows teachers to improve themselves thanks to in-service training programs they shall be provided. With projects they prepare and the tests they apply, students get the opportunity to use the knowledge (they have). Students have the opportunity to use English in practice.

In order to obtain an Equivalence Certificate and to have the Final Exam, our students are invited to the UK for a week free of charge at the end of the 8th Grade and then they return to our country with Equivalence Certificates issued for their names. Students, who complete this educational program, can continue their education without experiencing Equality Issues in European Union Countries, in the USA, in Canada and in many other countries.

LIVE ENGLISH COURSES WITH NATIVE ENGLISH-SPEAKER TEACHERS FROM THE UK

Each student has an English Teacher from the UK, who teaches live English Lessons to that student. Our students, who understand how English is used in the flow of daily life, are directly exposed to English by conducting live English Speaking Lessons for one hour each week. It is our main goal to stop English from being a lesson and to teach our students by means of Hidden Curriculums that English is indeed a way of life.

LGS (QUALIFIED HIGH SCHOOLS ENTRANCE EXAM) HIGH ACHIEVEMENT CRITERIA

Active automation programs are used. While periodic trial exams, which are arranged according to Grades of students, and our educational-teaching program, which is structured in such a way that supports individual differences of students in the highest level, prepares our students for EXAMS, they also CAUSE STUDENTS' GOALS TO BE SUPERORDINATE. Our students' capabilities to carry out cognitive analysis, to organize, to think critically and to create during educational programs are among secrets of students' success in exams.

EFFECTIVE GUIDANCE

It is the process of supporting an individual carried out by specialists in terms of psychological counselling and guidance, individual’s fulfilling his/her own expectations by improving his/her own skills and qualifications in the highest possible level, individual’s coherence with the family, school and the society by knowing himself/herself, individuals self-management, individual’s self-realization by making right choices, individual’s completion of social, psychological and cognitive development in a health way.

Thinking Skills: This program that is built by accepting ProgramPASS Theory as a benchmark aims to develop thinking skills thanks to active use of cognitive process fields and it creates an environment for active use of thinking skills together with academic studies. While said educational program is being implemented, a student can choose the cognitive behaviour suitable for social conditions, where this student lives, by creating wise solutions when necessary thanks to strategic approaches he/she has or can present his/her skill to produce solutions for problems containing academic contents.

Creativity Studies are home-works carried out at home during 1st - 5th Grades and they aim the use of information stored in the brain in a quick and fluid way when necessary, the capacity to destroy patterns carved in the mind and to think freely when solving problems, to produce extraordinary or different solutions when problems are faced, to improve a simple stimulant by applying little add-ons.

Studies Aiming the Exam System are studies that first start by giving information regarding present exam system for High School Entrance Exams during 6th, 7th and 8th Grades and it aims gaining skills/methods with potentials to positively affect students’ exam performances other than academic information.

CREATIVITY TRAININGS

Creativity, as a word, refers to meanings “to breed, to create, to form”. Apart from the usual, it emphasises on the different, new, and original. It can also be defined as looking at the same thing but seeing differently.

Creativity is an innate, human ability. Although it is a congenital ability, contrary to what is believed, it can develop or be suppressed by the influence of education and the environment.

Although art is the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to creativity, the fact that it is a very important ability during life outside of art is one of the most focused topics of the last period. Future demands flexible and creative individuals, who are able to solve problems, can make effective decisions, can lead and who have democratic values.

Our goal is to educate brave individuals, who can ask questions, who like to think differently, who can offer unique answers and who have a greater power of imagination.
